NGEC Welcomes New Leadership
The Commission has officially welcomed Hon. Rehema Jaldesa as its new Chairperson, alongside Commissioner Michael Nzomo Mithuka, following their appointment by President William Ruto. The two leaders assumed office amid expectations to drive the Commission’s mandate of promoting equality, inclusivity, and the elimination of discrimination in Kenya.
Hon. Jaldesa and Commissioner Mithuka were received at the NGEC offices by Commissioners Thomas Koyier and Caroline Lentupuru, as well as the Commission’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Purity Ngina. Their arrival was marked by a tour of the premises and interactions with staff, setting the tone for a collaborative approach to advancing NGEC’s objectives.
In her inaugural meeting with the Commissioners and the CEO, Hon. Jaldesa emphasized the need for a united effort to tackle persistent inequalities and discrimination. The new appointments bring important experience and expertise to NGEC. Hon. Jaldesa, a seasoned public servant, has a history of advocating for equality and human rights, while Commissioner Mithuka’s background in strategic planning and human rights strengthens the Commission’s capacity to address systemic issues. Together, they aim to amplify NGEC’s impact in tackling gender inequality and promoting inclusivity across all sectors.
Key priorities for the new leadership include enhancing policy advocacy, fostering stakeholder engagement, and addressing emerging challenges in gender equality and inclusion. Hon. Jaldesa and Commissioner Mithuka have pledged to build on the successes of their predecessors while introducing innovative strategies to accelerate progress.
