NGEC Champions Gender and Nutrition in Climate Policy at Kenya’s TriFocus-GCN Meeting

On October 29, 2024, the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) played a pivotal role at the TriFocus-GCN meeting in Nairobi, hosted by ICCASA. The forum, focused on the intersections of climate change, gender, and nutrition, brought together key stakeholders, including NGEC, IFAD, SDGAA Women for Women, and Murang’a County.

The event spotlighted the Gender Climate and Nutrition Initiative (GCAN), a three-year program supported by IFPRI, aimed at enhancing Kenya’s climate adaptation while promoting food security and uplifting women. NGEC emphasized the importance of integrating gender-responsive strategies into national and sub-national climate policies, advocating for the use of sex-disaggregated data to track climate impacts and progress on gender equality.

Moving forward, the Commission and its partners will refine gender-based indicators, engage communities in data collection, and raise awareness of the gendered impacts of climate change to ensure inclusive, impactful adaptation policies.
