Strengthening GBV Response in Kisumu: Enhancing Capacity and Accountability
Kisumu’s Efforts to Combat Gender-Based Violence Gain Momentum
The fight against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Kisumu has taken a significant step forward with an intensive training programme aimed at strengthening the capacity of duty bearers to detect, respond to, and prevent GBV.
The two-day training, held on 5–6 February 2025, brought together key stakeholders, including the National Police Service, Chiefs, Guidance and Counselling Teachers, Healthcare Providers, GBV Recovery Centre Coordinators, Paralegals, and Community Case Managers from Nyando, Seme, Kisumu East, and Kisumu Central.
The initiative, spearheaded by Amkeni Wakenya with funding from the European Union (EU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP-Kenya), was implemented with the support of PMagharibi.
The training focused on enhancing detection, response mechanisms, and accountability in addressing GBV, reinforcing the need for a survivorcentred approach.
By investing in knowledge and strengthening accountability mechanisms, Kisumu is making strides towards a safer, more just society.
