NGEC trains MDAs on gender mainstreaming

Over 30 officers responsible for reporting on gender mainstreaming from ministries, departments and agencies have received training on the revised gender mainstreaming indicators in a forum facilitated by NGEC, the Ministry of Devolution and Planning, and the Public Procurement Oversight Authority at a Nairobi hotel.

In line with the 10th cycle performance contracting guidelines, the gender mainstreaming indicators were reviewed and broadened to incorporate basic elements of inclusion and equality. The indicators also measured progressive realization of equality at process and outcome level as compared to the past generation of indicators which measured mainly inputs and processes. NGEC further developed a toolkit that simplifies the relevant indicators. The toolkit is available online.

NGEC is mandated with receiving and evaluating annual reports on progress made by public institutions and other sectors on compliance with constitutional and statutory requirements on the implementation of the principles of equality and freedom from discrimination.

The training was aimed at enhancing the participants’ knowledge and improving their understanding of the gender mainstreaming indicators and how to report on them and to clarify the reporting mechanisms for effective submission of the quarterly reports.
