Senator seeks collaboration with NGEC

Senate special representative for persons with disabilities Godliver Omondi has expressed willingness to collaborate with NGEC in promoting the rights of persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups of persons in the society.

Senator Omondi who paid the Commission a courtesy call said she looked forward to working with NGEC in pushing the agenda of special interest groups in the Senate’s legislative business.

“Disability issues are very close to my heart” said Omondi.

 The visit follows the Senator’s approach to the Commission’s development partner UNDP, seeking areas of collaboration for funding in promoting the rights of persons with disabilities and other special interest groups.

NGEC Vice Chairperson Commissioner Ndubai hosted the Senator and took her through the Commission’s activities. The Senator i was informed of the Commission’s work in the last one year which included facilitation of the review of the persons with disabilities income tax exemption order 2010 and audit of cash transfer programme all of which were supported by UNDP.

The Commission reiterated its commitment towards promoting equality and freedom from discrimination as outlined in Article 27 of the Constitution.
