Shot in the arm in search for two thirds gender framework

USAID through Uraia Trust, has committed to support the National Gender and Equality Commission with resources amounting Kshs. 14,000,000 to strengthen accountability mechanisms on women’s representation and participation at all levels of leadership and decision making.

The initiative will be anchored under the ‘Beyond quotas women leadership programme’ whose objectives include increasing opportunities for women to participate in decision making and strengthening the enabling framework to implement the gender quota.

The grant comes as a much needed boost to the Commission as it prepares to submit to the Attorney General proposals to be presented to parliament on a feasible and practicable framework for the implementation of Article 81(b) of the Constitution of Kenya.

The framework which must be in place by August 2015 will ensure the realization of equity and inclusion in political representation of women, youth, persons with disabilities, minority and marginalized groups and communities.
