NGEC concludes inquiry into child pregnancies in Kwale County

The NGEC has concluded the third circuit of the inquiry into child pregnancies in Kwale County. The Commission conducted the inquiry for three days and  received submissions from child mothers and survivors of gender based violence, parents, community leaders, duty bearers in the National and County Government as well community based organizations. 

The Commission also visited Kwale district hospital and toured the maternity wing to assess the implementation of the free maternity health programme. The Chairperson Commissioner Winfred Lichuma also led panelists to Young Mothers Rescue Home in Ukunda where child survivors of Gender based violence take shelter.  

The inquiry seeks to explore implementation gaps in national laws and policies alongside international and regional treaties on promotion of reproductive health rights of children and eliminating sexual violence and recommend actionable remedial measures.
