NGEC partners with UN Women to boost equality interventions

The National Gender and Equality Commission has partnered with UN Women and signed an agreement to the tune of Ksh.18.2 million s towards strengthening foundations for transformative gender equality in Kenya. The agreement was signed by Commission Chairperson Winfred Lichuma and UN Women Country Director Zebib Kavuma at the NGEC offices.

Thanking the UN Organisation, the Chairperson said the resources would go a long way in supporting initiatives aimed at reducing gender inequalities and discrimination in Kenya. Programmatic interventions covered under this project include monitoring and reporting on national and international treaties, prevention and response to GBV, mainstreaming gender and inclusion in planning and programming at county level and institutionalizing gender responsive budgeting at national and county levels.

In her remarks Kavuma said her Organization would continue supporting the Kenyan government and other organizations in ensuring gender equality as part of the larger United Nations goal. She called for more partnership to bridge the gender gap in the country.
