NGEC fetes outstanding institutions for promoting PWD rights
The National Gender and Equality Commission has recognised 5 institutions drawn from the public and private sector for their efforts in promoting the rights for persons with disabilities. State Broadcaster Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) and Kenya Television Network (KTN) received certificates for incorporating sign language services in their prime time Bulletins. Mobile Telephone service provider Safaricom, Kenya Reinsurance and Kenyatta University also received certificates for entrenching equality and inclusion principles at the work place
Speaking during the award ceremony Vice Chairperson Commissioner Simon Ndubai lauded the institutions for their work saying they had set a precedent worth emulating. “The Commission celebrates you and particularly the efforts you are putting to mainstream equality and inclusion at the workplace” said Ndubai.
Ndubai urged public and private actors to embrace inclusion in the spirit of the just adopted Sustainable Development Goals Call of ‘leaving no one behind’, adding that Commission is committed to working with all organisations towards promotion of the rights of all vulnerable groups.
