Commission tours Nakuru regional office

Chairperson Dr. Joyce Mutinda led Commissioners in touring the Nakuru regional office where she held discussions with staff and promised to increase support to the regional office to boost their operations. The Nakuru regional office was established in 2013 through the support of Ford Foundation to cover programmatic interventions in both North and South Rift Counties.

Earlier on, the Commission paid a courtesy call to the regional coordinator Mongo Chimwanga at his office. During the courtesy call, Dr. Mutinda pushed for the mainstreaming of issues of special interest groups in the county. Specifically, the chairperson pushed for the installation of a lift in the government building noting that it was unfriendly and inaccessible to persons with disability. At the same time Dr. Mutinda requested for partnership with the national government institutions to support the NGEC regional office with logistics during joint interventions.

Later the Commission held discussions with the county department of gender and the Nakuru Deputy Governor. The Commission was informed of an upsurge of child pregnancies in Kuresoi subcounty and urged the County government to intervene. Deputy Governor Dr. Kipkoech Korir said the county government was committed in addressing the issues of special interest groups through adequate budgetary allocation to the department of gender.
