APPOINTMENT OF HON. MARTHA KOOME AS CHIEF JUSTICE OF THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA
The National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) is delighted by the appointment of Hon. Lady Justice Martha Koome by H.E Uhuru Kenyatta, President and Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces of the Republic of Kenya as the Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya following a successful and rigorous interview and vetting process.
The appointment is a first in all aspects. For the first time in history, the composition of leadership in the three arms of government namely: the Executive, the Legislature and the Judiciary complies with the not more than two-thirds gender principle. Kenya now has a woman Chief Justice, all rounded, qualified and competent to serve in our Judiciary.
By appointing Justice Martha Koome, the President has yet again demonstrated his unwavering commitment to the promotion of gender equality and inclusion in the management of our country’s affairs. We salute the President for his faith in women and the determination to ensure they become part of key national decision-making and development agenda.
We congratulate the new Chief Justice Hon. Martha Koome on her new appointment and wish her well in her new assignment.
