80 Equality Champions Feted at Usawa Awards

A total of 80 individuals, institutions and counties were awarded with certificates and commemorative plaques at the inaugural Usawa Awards ceremony during the Commission’s 10th anniversary celebrations held at the Kenya School of Government.

Policare-an integrated service model (one stop centre) for response and management of sexual and Gender Based Violence by the National Police Servcie was feted for the comprehensive strategy to tackle gender based violence.

Bomet County was awarded for establishing a fully equipped modern film hub centre to benefit youth while Tharaka Nithi county was awarded for being the first county to establish a baby nursery (crèche) for women traders in Chuka market. Others who got awards include Sauti ya Wanawake Pwani (Coast Region) for championing women’s and children’s rights at the grassroots, Meru Governor Hon.  Kiraitu Murungi  for exemplary services in promoting equality and inclusion of special interest groups.

Chairperson Dr. Joyce Mutinda said the winners had made tremendous efforts in championing gender equality and inclusion in the country and deserved commendations.
