Dr. Purity Ngina currently serves as the Commission Secretary and the CEO of the National Gender and Equality Commission. Previously, she was the Regional Manager at Zizi Afrique Foundation.
Dr. Ngina holds a Doctorate in Biomathematics from Strathmore University, a Master of Science in Applied Mathematics, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education Science (Chemistry and Mathematics), both from Egerton University.
With over 10 years of experience, Dr. Ngina has extensive expertise in leadership, management, education, and advocacy for social change. She started her career in 2013 as a part-time Tutorial Fellow at Egerton University, Jomo Kenyatta University (Nakuru Campus), and Laikipia University in the Departments of Mathematics. Later, in September 2015, Dr Ngina joined Mawe Secondary School in Nakuru County, where she taught Mathematics and Chemistry.
In 2016, Dr Ngina Joined Strathmore University Institute of Mathematical Sciences, where she taught up to 2020 before joining Zizi Afrique Foundation as a Regional manager, a position she held till 19th July 2024. She currently serves on the boards of Kieni Technical and Vocational College, St. Joseph Allamano High School, and Kimahuri Secondary School. Dr. Ngina has undergone leadership training at Strathmore University, Raiser Resource Group, and the Collective Rising Leadership Institute.
Dr. Ngina has made significant contributions as an author of book chapters, research papers, newspaper articles, blogs, and policy briefs. Her work covers a wide range of topics, including education, disease modeling, fluid mechanics, and 21st-century competencies.
Dr. Ngina is passionate about young people and has cemented her commitment to this call by running a high school mentorship program that has seen her visit over 200 schools in Kenya.
Dr Ngina is celebrated as the Youngest PhD holder in BioMathematics in Kenya, having graduated at 28 years old.
The Secretariat is headed by the Commission Secretary/CEO who oversees day to day management.
