The National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) has joined the Kitui County Gender Sector Working Group for a two-day workshop on the National Policy on Women’s Economic Empowerment and women in leadership.
The Commission’s Kitui Regional Office attended the workshop, held in partnership with the State Department for Gender Affairs and Affirmative Action and UN Women.
Participants worked through what the National Policy on Women’s Economic Empowerment (NPWEE) requires, and how national commitments become practical action at county level.
ACCESS AND BARRIERS
Discussion centered on widening women’s access to economic opportunities and resources, and on the barriers that still limit their participation and representation in leadership and decision-making.
The Kitui County Commissioner attended and restated the Government’s commitment to gender equality and inclusive development.
RESULTS THAT COUNT
Policy has to show up as resources, institutional action, representation and measurable results, according to the Commission. Progress of that kind takes coordinated effort across government, development partners, communities and other stakeholders, alongside leadership spaces where women participate and shape decisions.
Economic empowerment and leadership run together, the Commission said. Where women have access to resources, opportunities and decision-making, families, communities and economies are stronger for it.
The Commission’s work continues on gender-responsive frameworks, coordinated implementation, and women’s economic standing, leadership and equal participation at all levels of governance.
