About the Directorate
The Directorate of Programmes and Research drives the Commission's core mandate of promoting equality and freedom from discrimination in Kenya. The Directorate coordinates research, advocacy, monitoring, and programmatic interventions aimed at protecting and advancing the rights of Special Interest Groups. Through its departments and divisions, the Directorate generates evidence, supports policy development, handles complaints and investigations, and promotes equality and inclusion across national and county governments.
Special Interest Groups Department
The Special Interest Groups Department focuses on advancing the rights, inclusion, and empowerment of vulnerable and marginalized populations.
Gender and Women Division
Promotes gender equality and the rights of women across social, economic, and political spheres. Supports initiatives that address gender disparities and strengthen women's participation in development processes.
Disability and Elderly Division
Promotes the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities and Older Members of Society. Works to ensure policies, programs, and services are inclusive and responsive to their needs.
Youth and Children Division
Advocates for the rights, protection, and well-being of youth and children. Supports initiatives that promote safe environments, equal opportunities, and meaningful participation in society.
Minority and Marginalized Groups Division
Works to advance the rights of minority and marginalized communities. Promotes equitable representation, participation in governance, and protection from discrimination.
Research, Documentation, Monitoring and Evaluation Department
This department generates evidence to inform policy development, program design, and advocacy initiatives.
Research Division
Conducts studies, surveys, and policy analyses to support evidence-based decision-making and strengthen the Commission's advocacy work.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Documentation Division
Tracks the implementation and impact of programs and policies related to equality and inclusion. Documents outcomes, lessons learned, and best practices to improve future interventions.
Legal, Complaints, Investigations and Redress Department
This department supports the Commission's mandate by addressing violations of equality and non-discrimination through legal action, investigations, and dispute resolution.
Legal Division
Provides legal advice and guidance on matters related to equality and non-discrimination. The division supports legal compliance, policy interpretation, and legal representation where necessary.
Complaints and Investigations Division
Receives, manages, and investigates complaints relating to discrimination and violations of equality principles. Ensures grievances are handled fairly, efficiently, and transparently.
Redress Division
Facilitates resolution of complaints through appropriate remedies, mediation, and other corrective mechanisms to ensure justice for affected individuals and communities.
Regional Offices Coordination Department
The Regional Coordination Department strengthens the Commission's presence across the country by coordinating regional programs and engagement with county governments and local communities. The department supports the mainstreaming of equality and inclusion in county policies, programs, budgets, and development plans.
