The National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) is a Constitutional Commission established by the National Gender and Equality Commission Act. CAP 7K pursuant to Articles 59 (4) & (5) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010. The Commission's mandate is to promote gender equality and freedom from discrimination for all people in Kenya with a focus on Special Interest Groups, which include women, children, youth, persons with disabilities (PWDs), older members of society, minorities and marginalized groups.

NGEC was established under the National Gender and Equality Commission Act, 2011 pursuant to Article 59 of the Constitution of Kenya.

An inclusive society free from gender inequality and all forms of discrimination.

To promote and protect gender equality and freedom from discrimination for all persons in Kenya, especially Special Interest Groups.

Special Interest Groups include women, youth, persons with disabilities, children, older members of society, minorities and marginalized communities.

NGEC promotes equality through policy advice, research, monitoring compliance with laws, investigating discrimination complaints and public education.

Yes. Members of the public can submit complaints related to discrimination, inequality or violation of the rights of Special Interest Groups.

Complaints can be submitted through NGEC offices, the Commission website, email, or by visiting the nearest NGEC regional office.

Yes. NGEC investigates complaints related to gender inequality and discrimination and recommends appropriate action.

NGEC can investigate complaints and recommend corrective action or refer matters to relevant institutions or courts.

Gender mainstreaming is the process of integrating gender perspectives into policies, programmes and projects to ensure equitable benefits for all genders.

Gender mainstreaming ensures policies and programmes address the needs of both women and men and promote equality.
