The National Gender and Equality Commission has promised full legal support for the Watta Community in their quest to change the name to Wayyu.
In a meeting with the Commission, Dr. Christopher Galgallo alias Abakola, who represented the Watta Community noted :
"The name Watta is a derogatory or pejorative, we as a community we are repulsing and detesting the notion of pejorative naming in preference for Wayyu."
Commissioner Dr. Gumato Ukur, who is the convener for the Minority and Marginalized Department , promised the commission's full support.
"As a Commission, we note your concern and promise to support your quest to change the community name to Wayyu from Watta," Said Gumato.
