The Malindi Regional Office of the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) is taking part in the fifth edition of the Senate Mashinani Programme in Kilifi County. The programme runs from 21 to 25 September 2026 and combines grassroots oversight with community engagement.
AT THE SCHOOLS The Commission joined a delegation of the Kenya Women Senators Association (KEWOSA) on visits to Gede Special School and Gede Comprehensive School. The engagements covered advocacy, sensitisation and educational mentorship.
They addressed the challenges affecting children and young people, among them the triple threat of adolescent pregnancies, gender-based violence and new HIV infections. Dignity kits were distributed to girls and to boys.
AT THE HOSPITAL
The regional office joined the Senate Health Committee and other stakeholders on a visit to the newly upgraded forty-bed maternity wing at Malindi Sub-County Hospital. The visit assessed maternal healthcare services and provided mothers with practical guidance and support on exclusive breastfeeding and maternal and infant health. Dignity kits and mosquito nets were distributed to mothers.
The Commission said the engagements form part of its work on equality, inclusion and access to essential services, and on ensuring that the needs of communities are reflected in governance and service delivery.
