Equality Data Hub CoCreation Workshop Launched in Machakos

Machakos, Kenya — In a significant stride towards strengthening datadriven policymaking, Hon. Jaldesa, Chairperson of the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC), officially opened the Equality Data Hub Co-Creation Workshop in Machakos. This landmark initiative brings together key stakeholders from government agencies, civil society organisations, and academic institutions to establish a robust framework for gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) in Kenya.

The workshop marks a critical milestone in the nation’s commitment to leveraging data for informed decision-making, ensuring that policy interventions are grounded in evidence and effectively address structural inequalities.

At the heart of this initiative is the establishment of a Gender Equality & Inclusion (GEI) Data Hub, a pioneering platform designed to provide disaggregated data that will drive policy formulation and advocacy efforts.

In an era where data-driven decision-making is paramount, Kenya has faced significant challenges in accessing reliable, disaggregated data on gender disparities.

Without such data, policymakers struggle to design effective interventions that address the unique challenges faced by women, youth, persons with disabilities (PWDs), children, older persons, and other marginalised groups.

As Kenya moves towards a more inclusive and equitable society, the establishment of the Equality Data Hub stands as a testament to the country’s commitment to evidence-based policymaking. By harnessing data, the nation can develop targeted strategies to eliminate inequalities, empower marginalised communities, and achieve sustainable development.

Hon. Jaldesa emphasised the importance of this initiative, stating:

"Data is not just numbers; it is the voice of the people. With the right information, we can craft policies that truly respond to the needs of every Kenyan, ensuring that no one is left behind."
