About

Desire Njamwea is the Assistant Director for Legal, Complaints, Investigations and Redress department. He is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya with legal practice experience of 11 years. His main legal practice interest includes, constitutional law, human rights, public and administrative law. He is a champion of legal aid services to indigent members of the society.

He holds a Masters degree in International Human rights laws and HIV from University of Pretoria, a Post Graduate Diploma in law from the Kenya School of Law and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Moi University.

Experience & Roles

Before joining the Commission, he worked as an Assistant Lecturer at Moi University School of law from 2013 to 2018. Besides lecturing, he is credit with putting in place a framework of institutionalizing the Moi University Legal Aid clinic that was tasked with offering experiential learning of the law. He has worked as a Land and Housing litigation and programing officer and a Right to water Program officer at the Economic and Social Rights Centre (Hakijamii). During his tenure at (Hakijamii), he is credit with among others, public interest litigation that saw the first interpretation of the right to housing and what constitutes its violation, the litigation case that lead to the swearing into office the first Commissioners of the National Land Commission as well being a member of the national taskforce that drafted the National Slum upgrading policy.

Desire Njamwea represents the Commission in the Victims Protection Board and is a board member of the Economic and Social Rights Centre (Hakijamii).
